36,000 Youngsters Born in 2005 Can Now Apply for Free Travel Passes to Discover Europe
The Commission launched the DiscoverEU autumn call on October 4, and this application round will end on October 18, meaning that youngsters will have two weeks time to apply for free travel passes.
In order to win a free travel pass for Europe, youngsters need to apply on the European Youth Portal, where they are required to answer five quiz questions and one tiebreaker question, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
As the Commission of the EU explains, in order to be eligible to apply for free travel passes, applicants must be born between January 1, 2005 and December 31, 2005.
Moreover, applicants must be citizens of an EU country or a third country associated with the Erasmus+ Programme – Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia, and Türkiye.
Successful applicants will be able to travel across Europe for up to 30 days during the travel period March 1, 2024 – May 31, 2025, and in those days, they will be able to explore different countries.
According to the Commission, participants will be able to discover the New European Bauhaus route, which was launched in January 2023.
“It aims to inspire young people when choosing their destinations and raise awareness on the importance of making the European Union ‘beautiful, sustainable, together’.” EU Commission.
In addition, the participants will also be able to benefit from other initiatives launched during the European Year of Youth in 2022, such as “Youth discovers culture thanks to DiscoverEU in 2022” and the DiscoverEU Culture Route.
The latter combines several destinations as well as various cultural branches, including music, architecture, theatre, fine arts, design, fashion, and many more.

Moreover, the programme gives the opportunity to youngsters to learn more about environmentally sustainable transport means.
In addition to the free travel passes, participants will also be provided with a discount card. The card gives over 40,000 discount possibilities on public transport, accommodation, culture, sports, food, and other services that are available in the eligible countries.
While the Commission encourages sustainable travel by rail. It has been explained that during the travel period, special arrangements will be available for young people, mainly when visiting remote areas and islands.
