Brussels Welcomed Around 100,000 Visitors at Iris Festival Last Weekend
On Saturday, May 7, nearly 15,000 people gathered at Electro Night in des Palais for the entire evening, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
In a statement issued on May 8, the agency stressed that many different activities were also offered to the public, who came to enjoy the festive weekend.
“Between the centenary of Brussels’ garden cities, Europe Day, the Iris Food Corner and the themed villages, there was something for everyone. It was a wonderful opportunity to get together and celebrate the joie de vivre that characterises the region and its inhabitants,” the statement reads.
In addition, many activities of various kinds brought to life the Brussels Park, where visitors of all age groups had the opportunity from the street theatre to enjoy sports activities and original performances. This year, visitors were able to treat themselves to a small culinary escape at the Iris Food Corner.
“On Saturday, dancefloor enthusiasts gathered on the largest dance floor in Brussels for Electro Night. Kungs, Calumny, Todiefor and Jérémie Charlier took turns at the turntables getting the audience’s heart pumping and setting place des Palais alight,” the statement also pointed out.
Meanwhile, access to the event was limited due to the large number of people attending the headline shows. The event was also organised in collaboration with Tipik.
As for the European institutions, the doors are opened to the public once again this year. Free guided tours were also organised, allowing visitors to discover the Brussels capital’s garden cities’ wonders and history.
On Sunday, May 8, Brussels Park hosted four themed villages overseen by the region’s institutions offering original, fun and guiding activities for the whole family.
According to the visit.Brussel, artists performing on the street took over the neighbourhood while gourmets enjoyed the delicious cuisine of the city’s restaurants and cafes. For food lovers, Iris Food corner provided different dishes served by numerous trucks.
The regional parliament also joined the shows, entertainment and celebrations. Furthermore, the Tram Museum and STIB / MIVB offered the public the opportunity to ‘travel back’ in time onboard a fleet of vintage trams.
