Bulgaria, Croatia, and Four Other EU Nations Granted Visa-Free Entry to China Starting November 30
China Expands Visa-Free Entry for Nationals of Six EU Countries, Extends Stay Period
From November 30, 2024, nationals of Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia, Malta, and Romania will be able to enter China visa-free for short stays. This new policy is part of China's efforts to boost international tourism and strengthen ties with European Union countries.
Policy Details
- The visa exemption is not permanent. It will be implemented on a trial basis, ending on December 31, 2025.
- If the policy successfully attracts a significant number of EU visitors, China may consider extending it.
Extended Visa-Free Stay Period
In addition to including more countries in its visa exemption scheme, China has doubled the visa-free stay period for all eligible nationals:
- Starting November 30, 2024, visa-free stays will be extended to 30 days, up from the previous 15 days.
- This applies to visitors for purposes such as tourism, business, visiting relatives, or transit.
EU Countries with Visa-Free Entry
China already permits visa-free entry for nationals of several EU countries, including:
- Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and Greece.
The recent inclusion of Bulgaria, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia, Malta, and Romania reflects China's continued expansion of its visa exemption program.
Visa-Free Entry Validity
Nationals of all countries included in the visa-free scheme can enjoy this benefit until December 31, 2025. Depending on the success of the program, China may decide to extend the policy or make further changes.
