Denmark Keeps in Place Its Restrictions – Permits Entry Only to Arrivals From Iceland, Norwegian Regions and Some Third Countries
The Danish authorities have announced that following the lifting of travel restrictions for some European Union, Schengen Area, and third countries, Denmark has decided not to make any other changes and keep in place the restrictions for other countries until further notice.
In a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, it was revealed that they would announce travel restrictions based on the infection rates in other countries and introduce changes regarding entry restrictions, testing, and isolation requirements based on their infection rate every Friday at 4 pm.
“Different countries have very different entry restrictions, including requirements for recognizable purposes of entry, as well as requirements for isolation and presentation of negative tests or other documentation before entry. The rules are constantly changing,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs statement reads.
The same notes that the country will update the Coronavirus list every week based on figures from the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the Statens Serum Institut, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
The restrictions against the EU and Schengen Area countries that the Ministry announced on April 23 have not experienced any significant changes compared to the previous announcement of April 19.
Similarly, this week’s announcement stresses that only travellers from Iceland and some regions of Norway, including Nordland, Trøndelag, Troms, and Finnmark, still meet the requirements for entering the country. All persons travelling from Iceland or one of the Norwegian regions will not be subjected to self-isolation upon entry.
Nonetheless, Iceland remains on the orange list, so all non-essential travel is not recommended by the Danish Government.
The authorities are also planning on allowing entry for non-EU and non-Schengen countries that meet the COVID-19 safety criteria, but an official announcement regarding the issue has not been made yet.
The country has already lifted all its entry restrictions for Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, and Thailand based on the European Commission’s recommendation.
On the other hand, Denmark has tightened the entry restrictions for countries with a high risk of COVID-19 mutations. The red list already includes Bangladesh, Botswana, Brazil, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe, and the region of La Réunion.
All travel, including business travel, to one of the above-mentioned countries, is highly discouraged by the authorities due to the virus mutations prevailing there. All persons entering Denmark from one of these countries will be subjected to strict rules.
Moreover, business travel is considered essential by the Ministry and is allowed to travel for such purposes to countries placed on the orange or yellow list.
Previously, the Danish authorities announced that they would open the borders for arrivals from EU and Schengen Area countries from May 1.
