EU Adds 18 Iranian Individuals and 19 Entities to Sanctions List for Violating Human Rights
According to the Council, the decision to impose further restrictive measures was taken after taking into account the disproportionate and widespread use of force against protestors following the death of Mahsa Amina, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
Part of the list of those that will now be subject to restrictive measures are Iranian government and parliament representatives, prominent media and political figures, and high-ranking members of the security forces of Iran.
“Among the persons enlisted are representatives of the government and the Iranian parliament, important political and media figures, as well as high-ranking members of the Iranian security forces, including of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps,” the statement of the Council reads.
In addition to the above-mentioned, the restrictive measures also target private companies as well as governmental bodies that provide security services and engage in activities that prohibit the exercise of freedom of expression.
The Council notes that with the newly made additions, the restrictive measures now apply to 164 individuals and 31 entities.
Individuals as well as entities against which restrictive measures apply are subject to an asset freeze. They are also subject to a travel ban to the European Union, which means that they are not permitted to enter the bloc.
