EU Commission Welcomes Agreement on the New Pact on Migration and Asylum
Such an agreement, according to the Commission, confirms the joint commitment to take all necessary steps towards the adoption of the legislative proposals connected to asylum and migration management before the end of the 2019-2024 legislative period, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
Commenting on the agreement, the Commission said that the Pact provides the approach needed to manage migration effectively. In addition, it pointed out that it is important to have a clear timetable for negotiations at the latest by the end of this year.
“The Pact offers the comprehensive approach needed to manage migration in an effective and humane way. It is important that we now have a clear way ahead with a timetable for negotiations between co-legislators starting at the latest by the end of 2022 and being concluded by February 2024,” the statement of the Commission reads.
The Pact on Migration and Asylum was presented by the Commission on September 2020. The aim of the Pact is to put in place a sustainable and comprehensive policy that proves a humane and effective long-term response to the challenges of irregular migration.
In addition, it aims to develop legal migration pathways, better integrate refugees, and deepen migration partnerships with countries of origin and transit for mutual benefit.
The Commission notes that a new governance mechanism would ensure a fairer division of responsibilities as well as effective solidarity between the EU Member States with national migration management systems integrated into a European whole.
The Pact also seeks to build a complete system by providing new tools for more integrated and faster procedures, better management of the Schengen borders, and flexibility and crisis resilience.
Previously, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reported that the Czech EU Presidency is pushing for negotiations on Asylum and Migration Pact.
The Czech Republic, which currently holds the EU’s presidency for the second half of 2022, is planning to start negotiations with the EU Parliament to improve the asylum system of the EU.
The main goal of the Czech Republic during its EU presidency is to get the pact for asylum and migration completed before the end of the commission’s mandate, which is scheduled for 2024.
The Czech Republic is following the example of France by using a step-by-step approach to the asylum rules in the making, while the concern that the proposal on asylum and migration management regulation remains solid.
