Germany Has Completed Evacuation of Over 700 People From Sudan
The same source revealed that, in total, the Bundeswehr has already removed people from about 30 nations out of Sudan, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
Through a recent statement issued by the government, Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz said that he feels very grateful for the deployment of the Bundeswehr in Sudan, stressing that this mission is important to bring German citizens of other countries to safety.
At the same time, Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock described this as a great achievement, stressing that it was the result of courage, teamwork and tireless commitment by hundreds of people involved in the Bundeswehr, the Federal Police and the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“I note the result of the operation with relief and with great satisfaction. We can all be proud of the squad. It worked right away and met all requirements,” Defence Minister Boris Pistorius pointed out in this regard.
Minister Pistorius also said around 1,000 soldiers from the Bundeswehr were deployed to the Middle East and North Africa, and many more were on standby in Germany.
As the German federal government explains, in the following days, the German citizens who are still in Sudan and have not been able to come to the airport will also be picked up by international partners on their evacuation flights with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Department of Defence.
Meanwhile, the federal government had confirmed the military evacuation mission and also sought the approval of the Bundestag.
In cooperation with partners and international organisations, the German government has called for a ceasefire and access to humanitarian aid.
Thus, with the announcement of such a ceasefire, a spokesman for the Federal Foreign Ministry said that the People of Sudan urgently need a resilient ceasefire in order to prevent a further escalation of violence, but also so that humanitarian aid can reach them.
Moreover, a deputy government spokesman Wolfgang Büchner stressed that the parties to the conflict must, in accordance with their commitments, try to return a civilian government to Sudan because, for years, the Sudanese people have risked their lives to fight for a return to democratic order and as a result, this commitment of theirs deserves German recognition and support.
