Hungary Experiences Surge in Number of Migrants, PM’s Chief Adviser Says
He said that the situation is becoming complicated after immigrants are reaching Hungarian borders from different countries, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
According to a report provided by Hungary Today, about 265,000 people attempted to cross the southern border of the country, in comparison to 114,000 registered during the same period last year.
In this regard, Bakondi said that migrants are now reaching Hungarian borders also Pakistan, Bangladesh, and India while stressing that the presence of Indian citizens has been the most worrying.
He stressed that the reason is that their homeland country is a huge country from which many foreigners can depart, and this is unprecedented in the unlawful migration movement.
The adviser of the PM said that migration is unlikely to decrease while stressing that the main victims will be European security and the economy.
It has been reported that in the past weekend, authorities in Hungary took action against a total of 776 border crossers.
Besides, it has also been revealed that the number of migrants has marked a notable increase recently, while the number of human smugglers also surged.
“This year, there have also been a very high number of car accidents in Hungary involving smugglers and migrants,” the statement notes.
According to the figures provided by the Hungarian government, a total of 215,000 people have been detained for crossing the country’s borders in an unlawful way from the beginning of the year until October.
In addition, the figures also revealed that officials initiated proceedings against a total of 1,500 smugglers.
In this regard, Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said that the number of migrants reaching the country through the Western Balkan route continues to remain high, considering it a reminder of the situation seen in 2015, during the migration crisis.
“These migrants bring a new dimension of violence and aggression, given that they’re now armed … they’re shooting at each other and threatening the Hungarian police officers and soldiers protecting the Hungarian border,” he stressed regarding the issue.
The Hungarian Minister also urged for support for the Western Balkan route in order to guarantee their and all European countries’ security.
