Kuwait Calls on EU to Facilitate Schengen Visa Issuing Rules for Its Citizens

During a formal lunch held in Kuwait between the country’s representatives and EU ambassadors, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kuwait, Sheikh Salem Abdullah Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, said that citizens of his country should no longer be subject to strict rules when applying for Schengen visas.

Moreover, the Minister also required that the number of available appointment slots gets increased and the processing time gets accelerated, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.

“The minister, during the luncheon held at the Foreign Ministry headquarters, called upon the diplomats to act to ease off difficulties facing the Kuwaiti nationals seeking the Schengen visa, facilitate procedures to apply for the visa, set more dates and speed up paperwork,” the statement of the Kuwait Ministry of Foreign Affairs reads.

In addition, the Minister also required that Kuwaiti citizens get issued visas with longer validity so they do not have to go through the same procedures almost every year when planning to reach the bloc.

The Minister suggested that the visas get issued for several years and stressed that it is important for the procedures to be facilitated as many citizens of the country plan on travelling to the EU during the summer.

Since Kuwait has not reached any visa-free travel agreement with the EU, all of its citizens are required to obtain a visa in order to be permitted entry into the EU/Schengen Area.

Depending on the purpose of travel to the bloc, Kuwaiti citizens are required to apply for a different visa type. Those planning to reach the EU/Schengen Area for tourism purposes need to apply for a Tourist Schengen Visa.

This type of visa permits all of its holders to remain in the area for up to 90 days within a six-month period.

When applying for a Tourist Schengen Visa, citizens of Kuwait are required to submit several documents.

Once they have made an appointment, they need to submit the completed visa application form, two photos that have been taken recently, their passport, and a roundtrip flight itinerary.

Moreover, Kuwait citizens applying for a Tourist Schengen Visa also need to submit proof of having purchased travel health insurance, proof of having booked a place to stay in the EU, and proof of sufficient financial means, among others.
