Leading Players in Germany’s Travel Market Keen on Greece’s Plans to Extend Tourism Season
In this regard, Greek Tourism Minister, Vassilis Kikilias, held a series of meetings with the heads of airlines as well as tour operators while he unfolded the ministry’s strategy to attract tourists to the Hellenic Republic in the following months after the peak summer season has ended, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
In a meeting that Greece’s Tourism Minister had with the heads of Lufthansa Group, Eurowings, Condor as well as Der Touristic, he brought into focus the success that the Hellenic Republic’s tourism industry had this year, considering that it was the only European country that managed to have an increase in flights amid the COVID-19 situation, compared to pre-pandemic levels in 2019.
The Minister emphasized that the Hellenic Republic was the only country to secure travel packages until the end of this year and also attracted the interest of airlines to expand flights in the winter in order to extend the tourist season both in the center as well as through other territories of this country.
Kikilias also highlighted that during this summer, Lufthansa Group’s airlines offered over 14,000 flights to the Hellenic Republic.

“It is obvious that Greece exceeds all expectations in terms of its tourism product for 2022. The country is the ultimate summer – and not only – a destination for every traveler as it offers unique experiences to those who visit it,” Kikilias stressed.
He also added that despite the current situation caused by the war in Europe, inflation, the energy crisis, the pandemic situation, and the Greek-Turkish relations, Greece managed to have a successful summer season.
The Minister also mentioned the significant surge in travel revenue in June this year, compared to the figures of the same month in 2019.
