Lithuania Obliges Travellers From All Countries to Present Negative COVID-19 Test Results Upon Arrival
Travellers from all countries worldwide wishing to enter Lithuania from February 8 will have to present negative results of the Coronavirus test, not older than 48 hours, Lithuania’s Ministry of Health has announced.
According to a Ministry’s announcement, self-isolation for a period of 14 days will also be mandatory, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
“All persons exempted from the quarantine rules will be required to have documents proving the intended exemption (with translation into Lithuanian, English, or Russian), which will be made available to National Public Health Center (NVSC) specialists upon request, or officials inspecting compliance with containment requirements,” the statement reads.
Authorities in the country will also tighten their controls at their border crossing checkpoints and inspect if travellers obey the recently introduced rules.
Lithuania’s government’s recent decision has been taken after the authorities evaluated that the Coronavirus pandemic and its new strains are widely spreading in many world countries. The measures have been taken in order to protect the health of Lithuanian citizens.
This is the second effort within the first two months of this year that Lithuania attempts to make its controls stricter amid the disease’s rapid spread.
On January 25, the country announced that all persons returning from the countries considered profoundly affected by the pandemic would have to present a proof that they have tested negative for the Coronavirus pandemic to be able to enter Lithuania.
According to the announcement, the United Kingdom and South Africa were also included in the decision due to the new variants of the COVID-19 identified in both territories.
As for the new variants, Lithuania’s Health Ministry, on January 27, confirmed the first case of infection by the new strain of the virus, identified firstly in the United Kingdom.
“On January 27, the NPHL received a confirmation that the sample contained the variant of SARS-CoV-2 with the B.1.1.7 mutation,” the Health Ministry confirmed.
Over 186,760 persons have contracted the Coronavirus pandemic in Lithuania, and more than 2,900 persons have died, based on Worldometers statistics.
The number of persons who have totally recovered from the disease, in Lithuania, exceeds 138,100 persons, while currently there are 45,725 active cases.
