Netherlands’ Schiphol Airport Expects 66,000 Daily Passengers During May Holiday
In a statement issued on April 12, Schiphol Airport said that on the peak day, the number of departing passengers will be over 70,000, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
According to the airport, on May Day 2023, the number of passengers flying from Schiphol is expected to be14 per cent higher compared to the number of passengers recorded departing on May Day last year, which averaged 58,000 and slightly below the pre-pandemic figure of almost 72,000 daily passengers.
“Schiphol and all partners have done everything they can to ensure that travellers have a good start to their journey from the airport. In recent weeks and months, a lot of effort was put into recruiting new security employees, and Schiphol launched an information campaign for travellers,” the statement reads.
The security company at Schiphol in cooperation with the organization of the extensive recruitment campaign, has achieved the goal of hiring 850 new officers. This means that more than 850 candidates are in the process of consideration, have started training or have already started work.
As Schiphol Airport explains, during busy days, including the weekend of April 22 and 23, there will be the same queue as it was before the COVID-19 pandemic, but not as long as in 2022.
In February this year, Schiphol Airport revealed that it would increase the average number of daily departing passengers by 65 per cent from 40,000 in winter 2022 to 66,000 this May.
Meanwhile, in January, the same authority said that it plans to expand its capacities in May of this year, with the aim that all travellers can board from and to the Netherlands.
In this regard, the airport emphasised that such a measure comes into force at the beginning of the season.
Furthermore, data provided by Netherland’s Schiphol Airport revealed that last year a total of 52.5 million passengers travelled to, from or through this airport.
Such data also show that last year there was a 106 per cent increase compared to 2021 when 25.5 million travellers were registered by airport authorities, which still represents 27 per cent less than in 2019, when they travelled 71.7 million travellers at this airport.
