Number of Passengers at Finland’s Airports Increased Sharply in June
Such figures have been provided by the recent report of StatisticsFinland,AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
In addition, the report shows that the number of passengers at Helsinki Airport was lower, and the combined number of passengers at other airports was 40 per cent lower than in June 2019.
Besides, compared to June 2021, passenger volume at both Helsinki Airport, as well as other domestic airports, was several times higher.
“The exceptionally high relative growth in the number of passengers compared to last year is caused by the collapse of air traffic due to the COVID-19 pandemic starting from spring 2020. Therefore, the year 2019 is used in the statistics as the comparison year to describe the number of air passengers before the pandemic,” the statement published by Statistics Finland reads.
According to the report, eighty-three per cent of the air traffic passengers were on international flights and a total of 17 per cent on domestic flights. Besides, the share of travellers on international flights was 90 per cent at Helsinki Airport while a total of 26 per cent at other domestic airports.
In June 2022, air freight, as well as mail transport, reached 12,265 tonnes, which was six per cent less than one year earlier.
In all, 99.8 per cent of the tonnes were transported through Helsinki Airport as well as 98 per cent in traffic between Finland and other countries. A total of 6,495 tonnes of the transported volume of goods were outgoing while 5,770 were incoming.
Like other European countries, Finland has also been highly affected by the spread of the Coronavirus and its new variants. According to the figures provided by the World Health Organisation (WHO), authorities in Finland have registered a total of 1,171,032 cases of COVID-19 infection since the start of the pandemic, while 5,012 people have died during the same period.
Besides, the figures provided by WHO also show that as of July 10, a total of 11,874,988 vaccine doses have been administered in Finland.
However, authorities in this country have estimated that the epidemiological situation has marked a significant improvement, thus Finland removed all the restrictions imposed to halt the spread of the virus earlier this month.
Such a decision was confirmed by the Border Guard and has been taken in order to further facilitate the travel process and help the country’s industries recover from the damages caused by the virus. In addition, it means that arrivals from other countries are no longer obliged to present valid proof which shows they have completed the immunisation process against the virus.
The easing of the restrictions has brought to the country a larger number of internationals. At the same time, according to a report published by Finavia, which is a company responsible for maintaining and developing Finland’s airport network, Helsinki Airport registered a total of 580 year-on-year increase in passenger volumes between January and June.
