Pandemic will accelerate digitisation: deputy PM
The SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus pandemic will accelerate the digitisation of the economy, Polish deputy PM and Development Minister Jadwiga Emilewicz said during the European Economic Congress which takes place online.
“The pandemic will accelerate changes concerning digitisation of many processes, associated with sales and the methods for providing services. For sure it will influence trade, transport and will make remote working more common,” Ms Emilewicz said.
She added that some business models and plans of enterprises will have to be modified because of the pandemic. In her opinion, many supply chains will be diversified, and companies will be more eager to save funds.
The deputy PM said that one of the most important tasks of the Polish government is to maintain the image of Poland as the most attractive place to invest in Central-Eastern Europe.
She believes that forecasts saying that Poland will pass the crisis “relatively mildly” will help retain the positive image.
She stressed that the state should run “subsidiary not substitute policy” over the period of the crisis.
“Expecting the state budget to take all the duties and risks of the entrepreneurs is not justified. Moreover, in the long term it could deprive us of everything that created the strength of the Polish economy – a flexible reaction to changes, ability to adapt, high efficiency and capability of attracting major partners,” Ms Emilewicz said.
The traditional, not online session of the European Economic Congress is currently scheduled to take place in September.
