Spain to Introduce Digital Visa Appointment Platform in Cuba to Curb Fraud and Streamline Process
Spain to Launch Digital Visa Appointment System in Cuba to Tackle Fraud & Delays
Spain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs is developing a new digital visa appointment system for applicants in Cuba to eliminate fraudulent practices and reduce long delays. Undersecretary Xavier Martí confirmed the initiative, though no official launch date has been announced.
The move follows pressure from Spanish consumer watchdog FACUA, which warned the Ministry about intermediaries exploiting the current system by reselling appointment slots. FACUA received complaints from applicants who were forced to pay large fees for appointments that should be free.
The new system is designed to fix these issues by increasing transparency, improving accessibility, and blocking illegal booking activity.
In 2024, Cuban nationals filed 28,261 visa applications for Spain. Of these, 22,642 were approved and 3,258 rejected, showing strong demand for Spanish Schengen visas from Cuba.
