Turkish Citizen Caught at Vilnius Airport with Fake Schengen Visa
Turkish National Detained at Vilnius Airport for Using Forged Schengen Visa
On Tuesday night, a flight from Munich, Germany, arrived at Vilnius International Airport in Lithuania. Among the passengers was a 32-year-old Turkish citizen holding a Turkish passport with a multiple-entry Schengen visa, allegedly issued by France, allowing a 90-day stay in the Schengen Area.
During routine passport control, officers from Lithuania’s State Border Guard Service identified discrepancies in the visa data. The system showed the visa was valid from February 9, 2022, to April 9, 2025, while the document physically presented showed a validity only until February 9, 2025.
A closer inspection revealed that the visa had been tampered with—the document showed scratched surfaces, altered expiry dates, and a damaged protective grid, confirming it as a forged visa.
The individual was immediately detained and placed in the temporary detention facility of the Vilnius Border Guard Unit. The forged document has been seized, and a pre-trial investigation is now underway.
Under Lithuanian law, using forged travel documents can lead to penalties such as fines, community service, or up to three years in prison.
Authorities are currently investigating the Turkish national’s intentions, and further developments are expected. This case adds to the growing list of similar incidents across the Schengen Zone, where individuals attempt to enter using fake or altered visas.
To combat such fraud, the European Union is preparing to launch the Entry/Exit System (EES), which will record biometric and personal data of all non-EU nationals entering and leaving the Schengen Area. The goal is to detect overstayers, identity fraud, and enhance border control security across member states.
