Airport di Roma Offering Flights to 70 Countries on 5 Continents During This Summer Season
Through a statement issued on March 22, the airport stated that the summer season is expected to be very positive for the Roman market as more than 35 new air connections will be activated, of which more than ten new destinations with which this the airport hasn’t had any prior connections, not even during the pre-pandemic period, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
At the same time, the airport is establishing a schedule that is gradually approaching pre-pandemic levels, with more than 100 airlines serving over 200 destinations in more than 70 countries, with more and more connections.
“The evolution of traffic over the current year releases a very positive outlook, albeit with risk factors related to the current economic and geopolitical context 2023, but there are conditions for Fiumicino’s traffic to return very close to pre-pandemic levels during the following summer season,” CEO of Aeroporti di Roma Marco Troncone pointed out in this regard.
According to the Airport, the real protagonist of this summer for Rome’s airports will be the North American market with a schedule that, in the peak months, will count 34 departures per day, 11 of which to New York alone.
This is a record offer thanks to the new connections launched by ITA Airways and the developments of American companies as well, which have increased the number of connections by 50 per cent more compared to 2019.
In June this year, ITA Airways will introduce a new direct flight to Washington. Meanwhile, the increased frequencies of Air Canada and Air Transat will enable three daily flights to Toronto and Montreal.
WestJet will also invest in the Roman connection, increasing the availability of flights to Calgary, the only direct connection from Italy to Western Canada, which was launched in 2022, and now offers up to five weekly flights.
The number of flights to South America will also increase through the Aerolineas Argentinas, which will organise five flights per week to Buenos Aires.
In addition to the available destinations for Tokyo and Delhi, based on the growth of ITA Airways flights launched at the end of last year, there will be a recovery of the Greater China airlines, with the resumption of flights to Beijing and Shanghai.
Therefore, Fiumicino will see about three flights every day to the People’s Republic of China. Rome will also connect up to twice daily with Seoul thanks to developments by Korean Air and Asiana. At the same time, the Romanian connections will move five times a week with Singapore through Singapore Airlines.
As for long-haul, Qatar Airways’ offer has increased the availability of 18 weekly frequencies, offering up to three daily flights on certain days of the week. Similarly, Gulf Air which started in June 2022, continues to invest in Rome, adding a third weekly frequency to Manama in Bahrain.
The 2023 summer season will be complemented by new attractive international destinations that will enrich the offer of the city directly connected to Rome, including Baku, Faro, Gdansk, Funchal, Memmingen, Castellon and Bastia, thanks to the development of companies such as Volotea, Vueling, Air Corsica, Wizz Air and Ryanair.
Moreover, Wizz Air and Ryanair will increase the already important offer introduced during the previous year in the base of 11 and 9 planes, respectively, in Fiumicino.
