Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport Agrees to Raise Wages for Security Staff
Through this social package that includes improved employment at the airport, higher salary increases, better rosters, and improved areas for security staff at Schipol, the airport aims to attract more security staff, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
“Schiphol is pleased about this wage increase that will help make working at Schiphol more attractive to security employees. In combination with better rosters and rest areas, this is an important measure in solving the shortage of security officers at the airport,” the statement issued by the Netherlands airport reads.
Schiphol Airport explains that the security-specific supplement of €2.50 per hour is in addition to the Schiphol supplement of €1.40 per hour, valid until September 1 next year.
In addition, Schiphol also revealed that starting from January 1, salaries will also increase based on the inflation agreement that applies to Private Security CLA.
For security company employees who start their hours from 00:00 to 5:30, there will be a 35 per cent increase. At the same time, the supplement also applies to all working hours until 06:00.
According to Schiphol, starting on January 2, 2023, the number of times a security officer can start a shift will be significantly reduced to a maximum of ten per day. Thus, the airport anticipates that rosters will be more transparent, leading to a better work-life balance.
Meanwhile, rest areas are being addressed with the participation of employees. In this regard, Schiphol has shown that it released much more budget.
Commenting on this decision, Schiphol COO Hanne Buis said there had been constructive talks with the security staff recently. She added that after these talks, it became clear that the airport would have to deal with the list of issues as soon as possible.
According to her, Schiphol Airport’s main priority was improving wages and working conditions to make Schiphol a better workplace.
“This total package of higher wages, better rosters, and improved rest areas will make Schiphol a more attractive place to work for security officers. For us, the structural improvement of the terms and conditions of employment is directly related to the structural improvement of the quality of Schiphol as a whole, for both travellers and airlines,” she also added.
