Croatian Airports Prepare for Entry Into Schengen
The airports of Croatia are set to end their checks for all travellers of the European Union/Schengen Area on March 26, 2023, and in order to avoid any possible problems, they have already started to make changes, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
To ensure that everything goes smoothly once the checks at the airports end, the largest and the busiest airport in Croatia, Zagreb Airport, has already announced that it is making more space for the waiting areas.
Moreover, the Zagreb Airport has decided to move the departure passport control counters from its terminal on the third floor to the terminal on the second floor.
Indexhr explains that the airport is further planning to set up additional kiosks for the pre-registration of passengers from countries that are not part of the Schengen area. The airport will also redistribute airplane exits and will adjust signs used to direct passengers
“We do not expect any problems with the application of that regime, but a faster and easier passage of passengers in departures and arrivals,” a Zagreb Airport spokesperson said.
On the other hand, the Split Airport has said that it does not need to make any major changes, as the project of expansion, as well as the airport’s reconstruction that took place in 2019, includes all the necessary conditions for entering the Schengen area.
According to the airport, they only need to relocate the passport control counter in different departure areas.
Commenting on the entry into the Schengen area, Split Airport said that this will benefit the airport as the traffic is expected to increase from the current five per cent to 80 per cent.
