Over 10,815 People Have Crossed Borders of Spain’s Ceuta and Morocco Since the Reopening
According to the Government Delegation of Ceuta, over 6,607 people and 1,355 vehicles crossed the Tarajal border (Ceuta) to Bab Sebta (Morocco) in the last 48 hours, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
In addition, the same source shows nearly 4,208 people and 1,076 vehicles crossed the barrier in the opposite direction.
According to local media reports, a large number of Ceuta residents crossed the border to Morocco in order to visit their families across the border. The same source shows that the citizens from European Union countries with a visa or residence permit in the EU countries accounted for a significant portion of the transit volume.
In the first days after the reopening of the borders, 3,268 people as well as 840 vehicles reached Morocco. At the same time, a total of 1,580 people, as well as 504 cars, visited Ceuta.
However, authorities at both border crossing points have confirmed that there have been refusals of citizens who wanted to cross these borders and who have not completed their vaccination process against the virus or did not hold a negative result of the Coronavirus test.
In addition, authorities in this territory have confirmed that legally recognized cross-border workers will also be eligible to enter Spain through Tarajal in Ceuta or through Beni Enzar in Melilla. It has also been emphasized that people who do not hold a specific visa for these two Spanish enclaves could also be permitted to cross the borders.
The Tarajal frontier in Ceuta and the Beni Enzar border in Melilla was closed in March 2020 after authorities in Spain declared a state of alarm and imposed lockdown measures.
Last year, the Spanish Ministry of Interior said that the border of Ceuta and Melilla would remain temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 situation.
Back then, authorities in Spain permitted the entry only for Spanish or EU Member States citizens who attempted to cross the land border between Spain and Morocco, who filled in the Health Control form or presented a valid proof of vaccination against the Coronavirus, or a negative result of the COVID-19 test or proof of evidence of the previous recovery.
