Slovakia May No Longer Grant Quarantine Exemptions for Those Returning From Abroad
Authorities in Slovakia have announced that they may no longer grant quarantine exemptions for persons wishing to enter the country after May 16, based on a request from a member of the Government.
The new decree of the Chief Hygienist has clarified the common cases based on which such exceptions were requested, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
“The scope of general exemptions from quarantine has been supplemented by new cases of persons entering the territory of Slovakia for the purpose of marriage or the funeral of a close person,” the statement published by Slovakia’s Ministry of Interior clarifies.
Based on the same statement, the following persons must show proof:
- that they want to enter Slovakia to participate in the funeral of a close person
- that they wish to enter the country for the purpose of marriage
The statement clarifies that in both cases, persons should present a confirmation of a negative result of a COVID-19 antigen test, not older than 48 hours, or a negative result of the PCR test, not older than 72 hours. The decision will apply only to persons over the age of ten.
Slovakia’s Government has clarified which persons are considered close ones;
- Direct relatives (parents, grandparents, children, great-grandchildren, grandchildren),
- siblings,
- wife/ husband, etc.
The exception will also be applied to one accompanying person if he/she can prove himself upon entering the territory of the Slovak Republic with a certificate of this status.
Persons who need to transit through Slovakia will be permitted to do so without being subject to additional requirements such as testing or self-isolation rules.
Since the beginning of the Coronavirus outbreak, Slovakia has registered a total of 376,709 cases of COVID-19 infection, while 11,244 persons have died, based on the figures provided by Worldometers.
The same source reveals that 255,300 persons have fully recovered from the deadly disease, while there are 110,165 active cases.
Last week, Slovakia’s Ministry of Interior announced that all persons planning to enter its territory from April 19 and who visited the European Union or Iceland, Norway, Liechtenstein, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom during the past two weeks would be allowed to do so if they meet specific requirements.
In March, the same ministry revealed that all persons returning from abroad must follow mandatory quarantine rules when entering Slovakia, even persons who have taken the second dose of the vaccine.
