Travelling to Spain for Christmas?! Be Aware of the Heavy Traffic
According to the Spanish government, it is predicted that around 18.2 million road trips will take place during the holiday season, from December 23, 2022, until January 8, 2023, which will lead to heavy traffic and possible waiting times at the entry and exit points, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
It has been pointed out that those planning to visit different parts of the country such as the Canary Islands, Madrid, Murcia, and the Balearic Islands, among others, from December 23 until December 26 should be prepared for busy streets as during this period around 4.4 million trips are planned.
Additionally, it has been emphasised that from December 30 until January 1, Andalusia, Aragon, Asturias, Castilla y León and Murcia will have heavy traffic too due to the New Year’s festivities.
Commenting on the high number of trips expected to take place during this holiday season, the government noted that the majority of them will be taken by those who will go to their second homes. Moreover, a high number of people are also expected to visit mountain areas as well as other tourist attraction areas.
“Many of the trips, both long and short, will go to second homes, mountain areas for winter sports, winter and Christmas tourist attraction areas, as well as commercial areas,” the statement of the government reads.
In addition to the above-mentioned, for all those who wish to get more specific data on the traffic while in Spain, the Directorate General for Traffic provides all the needed information so that everyone is able to reach and return from their destination without any incidents.
“The complete device can be consulted on the DGT website, a document where you can find traffic forecasts, the most unfavourable hours to travel, historical maps, road safety advice and regulations, traffic regulation and management measures, as well as the traffic operation by autonomous communities,” the government emphasised.
The government has also advised everyone to comply with traffic regulations and has called for caution so that incidents are avoided.
Spain remains one of the most popular European destinations for travel during the colder months as holidaymakers get to enjoy warm days in different parts of the country.
