Typographical Confusion Brings Significant Difficulties to Spanish Passport Holders
Fauca has warned that many persons report problems after the letter o is not distinguished from the number zero in their documents, thus causing the problem for them to travel to other destinations,AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
Soon after the publication of such misleading information that is causing trouble to some Spanish passport holders, the Consulate General of Spain in Manchester published through a tweet in which it stressed that the document is designed of nine characters, of which there are letters, as well as the remaining six, are numbers.
“If it begins with PAO, it is a letter O and not a number 0. Therefore, everything other than finding three letters in your passport should be an error. If you have written the number 0, try to change it to the letter O so that this document has legal validity,” it notes.
In addition, the United States Embassy in Spain’s capital also urged all those persons who plan to travel any time soon to carefully follow this detail in order to avoid such a problem. Not only when filling out the ESTA but also to have other operations such as the visa application in order to enter the country.
“What you tell us is very important, Nacho. When filling out the ESTA or visa application to go to the USA. It is very important to correctly indicate the passport number in the US. Spanish passport numbers often start with three letters, followed by six figures,” the statement reads.
As a result of such an error, which is affecting a large number of people, social networks have called on to make a change in the typography of such a document in order to prevent this type of problem from occurring again.
Such an announcement was published on the Fauca website, where it has been noted that several people have urged the government to change the font used and also use one where it can be seen clearly if it is a number or a letter.
Due to the “lack of information” regarding the place of birth, Spain previously announced that it would not accept Schengen visa applications from citizens of Vietnam who hold the new passport.
Such a decision was confirmed by the Embassy of Spain in Vietnam, while the same soon after announced that it is now accepting applications for holders of Vietnamese new passports.
