EU Records Remarkable High Employment Rate of 74.6% In 2022
Compared to the pre-COVID-19 levels, the EU’s employment rate increased from 73.1 per cent in 2019 to 74.6 per cent in 2022, marking a substantial rise of 2.05 per cent, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
According to Eurostat, among the NUTS 2 regions, the Finnish archipelago of Åland had the highest regional employment rate in 2022, at 89.7 per cent.
Finland’s archipelago was followed closely by the Polish capital region of Warszawski sto?eczny at 85.4 per cent, and the Dutch region of Utrecht, along with the Swedish capital region of Stockholm, both at 85.1 per cent.
In addition, numerous other regions also demonstrated strong employment rates, such as Budapest in Hungary (84.7 per cent), Bratislavský kraj in Slovakia (84.5 per cent), Prague in Czechia (84.4 per cent), Sostin?s region in Lithuania (84.4 per cent), and Noord-Holland in the Netherlands (83.5 per cent).
In the previous year, 102 out of the 242 regions in the EU achieved or exceeded the employment rate target for 2030, which is 78 per cent. Most of these successful regions were found in countries like Czechia, Denmark, Germany (with exceptions being Bremen and Düsseldorf), Estonia, Malta, the Netherlands, and Sweden.
On the other hand, in three regions in southern Italy, the employment rate was below 50 per cent in Sicilia (46.2 per cent), Calabria (47 per cent), and Campania (47.3 per cent).
Out of the 242 regions within the NUTS 2 classification, 221 observed a rise in their employment rates from 2021 to 2022. Among them, 123 regions exceeded the EU average increase.
Moreover, the Greek regions of Ipeiros, Notio Aigaio, Kriti and Sterea Ellada, along with the Spanish region of Canarias, make up the top five regions that experienced the most significant growth in employment rates.
However, a closer look at regional data shows that not all EU areas share this average prosperity. Some EU regions, mainly rural and peripheral areas in countries like Spain, Italy, Greece, Romania, and France, have lower employment rates due to limited opportunities for people with intermediate and high skills.
