Europe Remains Most Popular Study Destination for Mobile Students, Report Shows
Europe was also ranked the second most common region of origin for students worldwide, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
The report analyzed the recent United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) figures on student mobility across the world, dated 2019.
Back then, the top three countries of origin of mobile students were China, India, and Vietnam, whereas the most popular host countries were the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, Germany, Russia, Canada, and France.
The same source has revealed that the number of outbound students in France surpassed 100,000 for the first time, ranking the country fifth after China, India, Vietnam, and Germany.
2019/20 Erasmus+ data showed that France had overtaken Germany and the United Kingdom as the second country attracting the most Erasmus+ students.
In the 2020/21 academic year, France welcomed 365,000 international students, the majority of whom came from Morocco, followed by Algeria and China.
Campus France notes that fewer EU students will choose the United Kingdom due to Brexit and higher education fees. It further states that the war in Ukraine might affect the position of Russia as the fifth host country, but it can also affect the number of students from Africa who, before the war, were in large numbers studying in Ukraine.
“If 2022 ends up being the year of mobility’s return, it will do so in a form largely shaped by the unprecedented crises that have occurred since 2020,” the report suggests.
The latest data on the number of students who have received Erasmus scholarships to study in a European country prove that Europe is a region that attracts large numbers of international students every year.
About 151 students from Bangladesh have won Erasmus+ scholarships and will be studying at prestigious European universities during the 2022/23 academic year.
The same was reported for students from Nepal, with 60 students being awarded full scholarships for the period 2022-24. The news was announced by the Delegation of the European Union to Nepal, which said that through the Erasmus program, these students would be able to pursue Master’s degrees in various fields.
India has ranked first for the second year in a row among some 167 countries for the number of students receiving scholarships to study in Europe. During the next academic year, 161 Indian students received Erasmus Mundus scholarships.
