Portugal Ranks as World’s Third Most Child-Friendly Tourist Destination
The child-friendly criterion was based on the percentage of hotels with family rooms, with the main source being Booking.com, a safety index that gave each country an overall child-friendly travel score, AtoZSerwisPlus.com reports.
According to the analysis, it is estimated that because Portugal is considered a country with good weather, wonderful beaches, and delicious cuisine, it is ranked third in the world as the most child-friendly destination.
Portugal was selected as one of the ideal countries to visit with children, immediately after Turkey in second place and Greece in the first place. The data shows that the baby-friendly travel score in Greece was eight out of ten.
In addition, Portugal came in with a very good baby-friendly travel score, not far behind Greece, with an overall score of 7.45 out of ten. At the same time, such data also reveals that 49 per cent of all hotels in Portugal offer a family room option for those travelling with children.
Regarding safety, Portugal also ranked second in the top ten in the world, thus surpassing the Czech Republic, which scored 74.48, compared to Portugal’s safety index, which was 70.37. Of the countries studied, Portugal’s Safety Index is higher than their average, including Greece, which reached 59.68 out of 100.
Considering that children are more sensitive to hot weather, the average annual temperature in Portugal is 15.2°C, which means that it should be chosen as a travel destination for children. Meanwhile, every year Portugal receives about 591 mm of rain.
According to data from Tripadvisor on July 20 of this year, the number of child-friendly activities from each country was taken into account, which found that Portugal has 2,589 baby-friendly activities, which included the Lisbon Oceanarium and the wonderful São Rafael beach as well as Benagil Beach.
Moreover, Portugal has recently received the award as “Best tourist destination in Europe” in the European edition of the World Travel Awards 2022, which is the fifth time in the last six years.
In July alone, more than 1.8 million tourists stayed in accommodations across Portugal, surpassing the pre-pandemic level.
The National Institute of Statistics (INE) statistics also show that in the same month, 600,000 more visitors were registered than in the previous year when the restrictions on COVID-19 were still in force.
