Planning to visit Latvia to see family, attend a business meeting, conference, or official event? For most visit visa cases, you will need a formal invitation letter approved by the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (OCMA / PMLP) in Latvia. At AtoZ Serwis Plus, we help hosts in Latvia and applicants abroad prepare correct, OCMA-ready invitations and complete the full Schengen visa file.
A Latvia visa invitation letter is a formal document issued by OCMA (Pilsonības un migrācijas lietu pārvalde – PMLP) that invites a foreign national to visit the country for a specific purpose and for a specific period. Once approved, OCMA issues an invitation number that the applicant uses when applying for a Schengen short-stay visa (Type C) or a national long-stay visa (Type D) at the Embassy of Latvia or VFS Global visa centre.
The invitation confirms:
Latvia, as a Schengen Member State, follows the unified rules of the EU Visa Code. An OCMA-approved invitation is important because it:

For meetings, negotiations, training, trade fairs, conferences, or contract work. Must include company details, purpose, and travel dates.

Many applicants combine both — for example, an invitation from a relative in Riga plus hotel bookings for a few days in other Schengen cities.
We support both Latvian hosts (filing with OCMA) and applicants abroad (visa documentation):
Disclaimer: An OCMA-approved invitation does not guarantee visa approval. The final decision rests with the Embassy of Latvia or the competent consular authorities.

It is mandatory for private visits, business visits, and official visits. For pure tourism, a confirmed hotel booking is used instead of an OCMA invitation.
The host in Latvia files the invitation electronically with OCMA through the Latvija.lv portal. The applicant then uses the approved invitation number at the embassy.
Usually two working days for standard cases, up to five working days for employment-related invitations, and up to ten working days if additional checks are required.
Yes. Latvian non-citizens, permanent residence permit holders, and EU / EEA / Swiss citizens residing in Latvia can file invitations, along with Latvian citizens and registered legal persons.
No physical invitation is mailed. OCMA issues an invitation number which is verified electronically by the embassy or VFS Global.
At least EUR 14 per day for stays up to 30 days, or EUR 780 per month (the Latvian minimum wage) for longer stays — unless the inviter covers all expenses.
Documents may be submitted in Latvian, English, French, Russian, or German. However, the inviter's submission and explanations must be in Latvian.
Yes. You must apply at the Embassy of Latvia if Latvia is the country where you will spend the most days during your Schengen trip.
Yes. Registered Latvian legal persons and foreign legal persons with authorised representatives in Latvia can file business invitations through OCMA.
Yes. OCMA can refuse approval if the inviter provides false information, has insolvency issues, or if the foreigner has a poor travel or compliance record. OCMA can also ban an inviter for up to one year for false information.
No. All fees paid for processing a visa application, including the state fee for invitation approval, are non-refundable.
No earlier than six months before travel and no later than fifteen calendar days before travel.
No. If your fingerprints were collected by a Schengen mission in the last five years, they can be reused.
We guide and assist the Latvian host with preparing the OCMA submission — drafting in Latvian, documents, e-signature and fee payment. The electronic submission itself is made by the eligible inviter under Latvian law.
Ideally six to eight weeks before the applicant's planned travel date, allowing time for OCMA approval, VFS appointment, and visa decision.
