Armenia is a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), which grants citizens of Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan the right to work in Armenia without a work permit, making Armenia's labour market exceptionally open to EAEU nationals. For other foreign professionals, Armenia's streamlined online work permit system (workpermit.am) and relatively fast processing times make it one of the more accessible countries in the region for legal employment.
To work legally in Armenia as a non-EAEU foreign national, you generally need two documents: a work permit (applied for by your employer through Armenia's official online platform aworkpermit. amm, managed by the Migration and Citizenship Service) and a Temporary Residence Permit / Temporary Resident Card (applied for by the employee after the work permit is approved). These are separate but linked — the work permit is the basis for the Temporary Residence Permit.
Armenia's official e-visa system is operated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia through evisa.mfa.am. Many nationalities can enter Armenia visa-free for up to 180 days, but a visa-free entry alone does not entitle a person to work legally in Armenia.
Important: According to Armenia's Law on Foreigners and the Migration and Citizenship Service (workpermit.am), the employer must register with the Migration and Citizenship Service (workpermit. am). The Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs (MLSA) conducts a Labour Market Test, and the full decision is issued within 30 days. Upon approval, the employee receives a combined work and residence card valid for up to 1 year.

The employee then applies for the Temporary Resident Card, which takes 30–45 days. The total end-to-end process typically takes 8–12 weeks. It is strongly recommended to begin the process well ahead of the intended start date.
As required by the Armenian MLSA and Migration and Citizenship Service, key documents include a valid passport, the employer's registration on workpermit.am, a signed employment contract, academic and professional certificates (notarially certified in the country of origin and at the Armenian Embassy), a criminal record certificate, and proof of accommodation. The work permit fee of AMD 25,000 (~USD 65) is paid by the employer. The employee pays AMD 105,000 (~USD 275) for the Temporary Residence Permit.
